There are plenty of ways to level up, such as killing monsters, doing quests, Guildleves, Guildhests, FATEs, and dungeons, and Hunting Logs. If ya find yourself sitting around town waitin' on someone to ask if ya want to go kill some beasties together, you're doin' it all wrong. Qiqirn raiding a hamlet, some big nasty rearing its head. Then there's all the shite that happens out in the world. There's Guildhests, they're like Guildleves for parties. Then there's dungeons grab yourself some brothers in arms and go down into the dark depths of the void, kill some fiends, get some treasure, and get some nice experience along the way. Hells, even the companies have some for ya, if you want to help out your country. Ya see, there are these little crystal plates called Guildleves, you take them out into the world and smash em, and you find yourself doin' a task someone needs. Your guild and your company's got a good regimen of things to kill, gather, or make. Beain' a coblyn to death with your pickaxe may be amusing, but that is NOT how you mine and won't do ya any good. Of course, ya got your standard "Find somethin' nasty and ram your sword through its skull" method too if that's what you're good at. Hells, even runnin' odd jobs for the locals can get ya stronger. What ya need to know right now is there are plenty of ways to get stronger. So ya picked up a sword, and want to figure out which end's the pointy one, eh? As you get better at your craft, you'll learn a bunch of new tricks, but I'll cover them later. This entire system is wrapped up in the Disciplines. This makes FF much more flexible than other games and allows players to more easily multi-class and have characters that can fill different roles without having to have 4 or 5 separate characters. FFXIV: ARR is different in that you are able to switch your class. You pick your race, pick your class and then play the rest of the game with those choices. Many MMO games lock you into the choices you make at the beginning of the game. One of the best parts about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is the class system. Thankfully, there's almost no reason to make an alt except to play as a different race. If you've made an alt, you have no options to start ahead you have to sit through everything, even if you've already seen it before. Unfortunately, this also means that a good portion of the early game cutscenes and dialogues are totally unskippable. These cinematics often include dialogue choices, so you aren't just watching something that is completely static.
